What's Her Story: A jaw-dropping model and celebrity actress. Halle is the youngest daughter of Jerome and Judith Berry, an interracial couple. Halle was raised by Mother Judith, a psychiatric nurse, because abusive Father Jerome was a deadbeat--abandoning his family when Halle was only four. Once moving to Cleveland, Halle became an active participant of her high school, involved as newspaper editor, class president, member of the honor society, varsity cheerleader, and prom queen. Halle entered and won many beauty contests during and after High School including Miss Ohio, Miss Teen All-American, and first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant. She was the first African American to represent the U.S. in the Miss World competition in London. Halle attended Cleveland's Cuyahoga Community College for a short time, where she studied broadcast journalism. Later, she moved to New York City where she found work as a catalog model. Halle's acting career began in television with a cancelled sitcom "Living Dolls", but soon got her break on CBS's "Knot’s Landing". Halle's first big screen break came with Spike Lee’s "Jungle Fever". More substantial roles followed with The Last Boy Scout, Boomerang, CB4, The Flintstones, Losing Isaiah, Solomon & Sheeba, X-Men, Swordfish, Die Another Day--a James Bond Film, Monster's Ball, X2 and Gothika. In romance, Halle is a bit of a loser. First involved with "Jungle Fever" costar Wesley Snipes, then marrying Atlanta Braves outfielder David Justice in 1993 only to end in a nasty divorce in 1997. Since then, Halle married musician Eric Benét. Now that too is on the rocks. Seemingly discouraged, Halle says she'll never marry again.
