Comic Book Hottie Roles: Gail in Sin City
Full Name: Rosario Dawson
Date Of Birth: May 9, 1979
Place Of Birth: New York, NY USA
Profession: Actress
What's Her Story: Rosario Dawson was raised in a Manhattan tenement building by her Bronx-born mother, a professional vocalist, and her father, who worked in construction. Although Rosario's parents separated when she was still young, they continued to live in the same building, allowing Rosario and her brother to remain close to them. Dawson attended an alternative school in downtown Manhattan, where she harboured aspirations of one day becoming a marine biologist. When she reached age 15, however, Dawson's career plans unexpectedly changed when she was literally cast off the street for the role of Ruby in the 1995 production Kids, after director Larry Clark spotted her on the stoop of her apartment building. After being bitten by the acting bug, Dawson attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. It wasn't long before she received her second casting call, this time from Spike Lee for his 1998 film, He Got Game. Over the course of the next few years, Dawson appeared in some small-time films, none of which were box-office hits. Her first major role was as bassist Valerie Brown in 2001's feature film, Josie and the Pussycats. Before the end of 2001, she appeared in three more movies: Sidewalks of New York, Trigger Happy and Chelsea Walls. In 2002 she played alongside Eddie Murphy in The Adventures of Pluto Nash, then starred opposite Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black II, then she returned, like a dog to its vomit, starring in Spike Lee's, The 25th Hour, opposite Edward Norton. Her biggest role to date came as Roxane, the wife of Alexander the Great, in Oliver Stone's homo epic "Alexander" where she played opposite Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie. Her comic book movie connection comes by way of Frank Miller's Sin City comics to movie adaptation, where she co-stars with the likes of Bruce Willis.
